From the basic premise to the dialogues that manage to bring alive the dramatic moments, ‘Qayamat’ is a drama where the story is a definite king.
If there is anyone who has a reputation for delivering soul-stirring projects, it has to be Ali Faizan. The director has a knack for diving deep into human emotions and displaying them with pure honesty and sincerity. In ‘Qayamat’ he milks the best from his actors. Not even once, they go overboard. The characters come across as real and raw. It seems like we are eavesdropping on their conversations. He makes them feel like the people we know.
‘Qayamat’ is bolstered with strong performances. Ahsan Khan astounds as Rashid. He surprises with his brilliant acting prowess. Be it his mannerism, gestures, or dialect – Khan aces all the dimensions of his character. He sync’s into the character like a fish takes to water. This is definitely Ahsan’s best performance to date. It’s hard to get our eyes off from Neelam Muneer. She expresses, emotes, and acts like a marvel in every scene. Amar Khan’s track may have ended, but she was luminous and sure-footed with her part. Her expressive eyes handled a range of emotions. Her acting credentials are growing with every project, and here she showcases sincerity, loyalty and anguish with finesse. We wish there was more of her is a testament to what her performance brought to the play. In a big project with strong lead actors, where each actor plays an important part to take the narrative forward, it is very important for the actors to be good. And they are! Saba Faisal, Shabbir Jaan, Noor-ul-Hassan, Zainab Qayyum, Sana Fakhar and Kinza Malik enact their respective parts with utmost dedication.
Socially Relevant Message
‘Qayamat’ is a thought-provoking, hard-hitting play that brings to light the burning issues of misogyny and domestic abuse that is rampant in the country. As the story depicts, it may turn out fatal at times. The drama hooks us with its tone of reality and moments of lump in the throat and tears. It’s refreshing to see that ‘Qayamat’ does not obsess about romantic relationships. Instead, the romance blooming between the characters is real and endearing, mainly because it is subtle and understated.
