As Joe Biden edged towards victory, President Donald Trump began his Thursday by demanding that States stop tallying votes. “STOP THE COUNT!” Trump tweeted at 9:12 am E.T., after spending much of Wednesday posting a flood of misinformation on Twitter meant to make it seem as though Democrats are stealing the 2020 election from him. The Trump campaign announced it was pursuing court actions to stop ballot counting and prevent the counting of absentee ballots.
The popular expression “Revenge is a dish best served cold because you shouldn’t act in the heat of the moment” is more satisfying if enacted when unexpected. The recent Twitter storm perfectly describes this proverb. When Donald Trump continued to tweet about the U.S. presidential election results, 17-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg got her revenge against him by tweeting, “So ridiculous. Donald must work on his Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill, Donald, Chill!”
The tweet copied the exact phrasing of one Trump sent in December 2019. He criticised Time magazine’s decision to name Greta “Person of the Year.” However, Trump sarcastically called her “a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future” after her 2019 speech at a United Nations climate summit.
In that speech, Thunberg criticised world leaders for their “betrayal” of young people and condemning them for their lack of action on the climate crisis.
Many on social media have declared it the best mic-drop ever by calling it a ‘flawless victory’ Moreover, many said that Trump doesn’t even act like a toddler. That’s an insult to toddlers. They perform better and know better than he does.
Within four hours, Thunberg’s tweet had surpassed Trump’s in both likes and retweets and led to her name dominating Twitter trends.
Greta indeed reminded the world that though she may be a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, fearless climate leader, and inspiration to millions worldwide, she’s still a teenager on the internet. Hence, she decided to remind the U.S. President of his advice and won the sweet revenge award!
